How Ayurveda Can Help Combat Dandruff: A Clinical Study on Oxidative Stress

Researchers have demonstrated that an Ayurvedic regimen for dandruff can reduce oxidative stress in affected scalp. The study, conducted by Susmita Gudulkar and colleagues, evaluated the efficacy of an Ayurvedic approach in 30 participants with dandruff. After 8 weeks of treatment, a significant improvement in scalp health was observed, with a reduction in oxidative stress markers. The authors highlight that the combination of herbs and Ayurvedic practices can help restore balance and health to the scalp, aligning with the concepts of Agni (digestion) and doshas. Although the results are promising, the study had a small sample size, which limits the generalizability of the findings. The research suggests that Ayurveda may offer a viable alternative for treating dandruff, going beyond conventional solutions.

Yogic Breathing and Mental Stress Relief: What Research Reveals

Researchers have highlighted that the practice of yogic breathing can significantly reduce mental stress levels. In a comprehensive review, Dr. Kuntal Thakur and Rangeet Sengupta analyzed various studies on breathing techniques, such as Pranayama, and their effects on the nervous system. The results indicate that these practices not only decrease anxiety but also improve cognitive function and sleep quality. The proposed mechanism involves the regulation of the HPA axis—the communication between the brain and the glands that control the stress response. Additionally, conscious breathing can increase heart rate variability, an indicator of stress resilience. Despite promising evidence, the review emphasizes the need for more controlled studies to validate these findings and better understand the long-term effects of yogic breathing practices.

Calotropis gigantea and Anti-Arthritic Activity: What an Extract Reveals

Researchers evaluated the anti-arthritic activity of the hydroalcoholic extract of Calotropis gigantea flowers in an in vitro study. The extract demonstrated potential to inhibit the activity of inflammatory mediators, suggesting a beneficial effect in reducing inflammation associated with arthritis. Results indicated that the extract concentration influenced efficacy, with higher doses showing greater anti-inflammatory activity. Although the data are promising, it is important to note that tests were conducted in a controlled environment, which limits direct extrapolation to clinical practice. The connection between modern findings and Ayurvedic knowledge can be observed in the traditional use of Calotropis gigantea for inflammatory conditions, reinforcing the relevance of contemporary research in relation to ancestral practices.

Moringa and Hygrophila: A Promising Combination Against Urinary Tract Infections

Researchers analyzed the interaction between leaf extracts of Moringa oleifera and Hygrophila auriculata, revealing that the combination of these plants exhibits significant antibacterial and antibiofilm potential against Proteus mirabilis. The extracts were prepared by different methods, including Ayurvedic decoction and steam extraction. Results showed that the combined treatment reduced the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) to 0.1220–0.4883 mg/mL and 0.2441–0.9766 mg/mL, respectively, compared to individual treatments. Furthermore, embryonic toxicity in zebrafish was lower with the combination, presenting an LC50 value of 1812.74 µg/mL. FTIR analysis indicated the presence of important functional groups, suggesting that these extracts have potential for developing alternative therapies, especially in urinary tract infections, where P. mirabilis is a causative agent, in a scenario of increasing antibiotic resistance.
