Summary
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a condition with increasing global incidence, affecting countries such as India and the USA. In this context, a controlled, randomized clinical study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Ayulite, a polyherbal formulation composed of 11 herbs, compared with vitamin E, currently one of the few recommended therapeutic options. With 67 randomized patients, 61 were included in the final analysis. After 90 days of treatment, 4 of the 29 patients in the Ayulite group and 7 of the 32 in the vitamin E group showed complete recovery, with no statistically significant difference between the groups. The controlled attenuation parameter increased in the Ayulite group, indicating a possible improvement in liver condition. Although 8 adverse events were recorded in the Ayulite group and 10 in the vitamin E group, the safety and efficacy of Ayulite were comparable to vitamin E, suggesting that this herbal formulation may be a viable alternative for the treatment of NAFLD grades 1 and 2.
Key points
- 4 of the 29 patients in the Ayulite group and 7 of the 32 in the vitamin E group recovered completely after 90 days of treatment.
- The controlled attenuation parameter increased significantly in the Ayulite group (p 0.002).
- The study included 67 patients, with 61 being analyzed, which limits the generalizability of the results.
- The groups showed no statistically significant differences in demographic characteristics.
- Adverse events were similar between the groups, with 8 in Ayulite and 10 in vitamin E.
✦ For you
If you are concerned about your liver health, consider observing your diet and lifestyle habits. A balanced diet and regular exercise can help prevent and manage fatty liver. Additionally, be attentive to symptoms such as fatigue or abdominal discomfort. If you notice any persistent changes, seek a qualified healthcare professional.
For practitionersExpand
In clinical practice, Ayulite may be considered as a complementary option for patients with NAFLD grades 1 and 2. Evaluate patients' response to treatment and adjust dietary and lifestyle recommendations as needed. Monitoring of liver parameters should be performed to ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment.
